Under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, with the support of Çanakkale Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, Çanakkale Municipality, Tourism and Destination Development Association (TDYD) and Traditional Çanakkale Ceramics Sustenance Association, the 1st International Çanakkale Ceramics Festival Launch Meeting was held at Kolin Hotel on 9-11 May 2025.
The meeting, which started with a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem, was attended by Çanakkale Deputy Governor Abdül Kadir Duran, Çanakkale Deputy Mayor Özlem Eryiğit, ÇOMU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Arda Aydın, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Evren Karayel Gökkaya, Çanakkale Bar Association President Av. Ardahan Dikme, Çanakkale Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Çağman Esirgemez, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts Prof. Dr. Didem Çatal, Head of the Organising Committee Prof. Dr. Tülay Güzel, as well as the President of the Organising Committee Prof. Dr. Tülay Güzel. Prof. Dr. Tülay Güzel, Chairman of the Organising Committee, said that they aimed to place ceramic art on UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage and added: "Ceramics has been one of the most important elements that left a mark on history after stone.
After watching the introductory film of the festival, Çanakkale Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Çağman Esirgemez emphasised that Çanakkale is rapidly progressing towards becoming a city of festivals and said: "Our city has become a brand in terms of tourism and is being crowned with festivals." ÇOMU Rector V. Prof. Arda Aydın said that they support such festival events where Çanakkale's values are promoted as Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University. Çanakkale Mayor V. Özlem Eryiğit said: "Cities are beautiful when they are told. The most effective method of promoting cities is to highlight our values. One of these values is the art of ceramics. As Çanakkale Municipality, we support all the work done in this sense." The Launch Meeting ended after the opening speeches were made.
