Çanakkale Ceramics Research, Development, and Application Center (ÇASEM)
Founded in 2000 within Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, ÇASEM aims to research the city's rich history of ceramic production, carry out educational activities related to ceramics, and increase the number of traditional Çanakkale ceramics produced using time-honored methods. The center is home to numerous skilled artisans who contribute to ceramic production.
Today, ÇASEM produces approximately 55 different forms of ceramics. Among the most notable are:
Horse-headed pitchers
Traditional Çanakkale plates
Brush-decorated plates
Pitchers with beak and bird-shaped spouts
In addition to ongoing production, the center engages in research and development activities. They explore new methods and forms, ensuring production begins when suitable conditions are met. This includes conducting graduate thesis studies and publication efforts, fostering academic growth alongside craftsmanship.
With a director and a team of four staff members, ÇASEM produces 100-150 ceramics weekly. These creations are sold through the Sales Office of the Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Revolving Fund Management Directorate, located in the city center.
